Star Trek: Beyond trailer

The first trailer for Star Trek: Beyond is out and will be showing in the trailer mix for the new Star Wars movie hitting theaters Dec 17/18.  Set in the middle of their 5 year mission, the Enterprise crew must survive on a planet after abandoning their ship.  I personally like the interlude between Spock and Bones.  Here's the trailer:

Captain America: Civil War Trailer is out!

The new Captain America: Civil War trailer is out and it is intense.  Lots of hero vs hero action.  Divided loyalties and a struggle by the Government to contain heroes abilities and actions.  This is going to be a good one, but us fans, I doubt there will be a great winner in this.  We love our heroes and like the comics, this movie could easily shatter our own faith in characters we idolize.

Here it the trailer:

The Seventh Sister: Star Wars Rebels

One of the new Dark Side Inquisitors is The Seventh Sister.  Talented actress Sarah Michelle Gellar takes on the voice role of this new villain as she hunts down Ahsoka Tano, Kanan, Ezra, and the rest of the Rebels.  Disney is really beginning to step up the action in season 2 after The Siege of Lothal and Vader's appearance.  Ahsoka has returned to the Star Wars story line, and so have Captain Rex and other members of the old 501st Clone Trooper Legion.  Check out this background into the newest Star Wars Inquisitor that will soon confront our team of Rebels.

The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is less than two months away.  Tickets are on sale and the websites are crashing from the demand.  Could the dark side have anything to do with it?  Hmm,,,  Anyway, here is the newly released trailer, full of more insights and more questions.

Anyone wonder what it look like if you strapped a GoPro camera to a Jedi while he took on Imperial Forces?  Wait no longer.  Check this amazing video out!

New Batman vs Superman Trailer from Comic-Con

The new trailer for Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice was released at Comic-Con this last week.  The trailer really lays out more of Batman's motivation for taking on Superman. It looks to be related to the fight between Superman and Zod that resulted in the destruction of the Wayne Financial building.  It has some good glimpses of Wonder Woman as well.  Lex Luthor seems a bit off to me, but it's early.

Anyway, here's the trailer.

New Suicide Squad Trailer from Comic-Con

Wow.  This new trailer for Suicide Squad really enhances the eeriness of this team.  Check it out.

New Doctor Who Trailer from Comic-Con

You can't have a discussion about the greatness of Science Fiction and Doctor Who not be a part of it.  Peter Capaldi is the 12th (or in some cases 13th) Doctor and this next season looks pretty gripping.  I wasn't wowed by last season, but the episodes did pick up before the end.  Now September is looking really good with fall episodes of TV favorites fitting into the schedule and this one is looking good.

Here is the trailer for the new season of Doctor Who on BBC One that was shown at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Axanar: A new Star Trek Possibility

Before there was James T. Kirk, the early Federation was put to the test in war against the Klingon Empire.  The hero of that conflict was Captain Garth (who later appeared in Star Trek TOS as a crazed ruler in "Who Gods Destroy").

This new fan fiction and crowdfunded effort to bring this new movie project to the big screen is underway.  So far, they have created a terrific background for the film in Prelude to Axanar: The Four Years War.

I am excited to see where this project may go and could lead to powerful war movie based in the Star Trek Universe.

RIP Sir Christopher Lee

Today is a sad day.  Another great actor with a storied career has shrugged off this mortal coil.  Sir Christopher Lee passed away today at the age of 93.  His career was filled with powerful roles and storied accolades.

His most well know for his antagonist roles.  Mr. Lee personified the role of the villain in many films.  He was The Man with the Golden Gun in the James Bond movie.

He was Dracula.

He was the infamous Count Dooku in the Star War prequels.

And lastly he was Saruman in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie trilogies.

I could go on and on about his roles.  He has played Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes.  He played the role of Death and even Lucifer. His range, depth of understanding and presence will be missed in the acting world.  RIP Sir Christopher Lee.  Take a bow and enjoy your rest.  You've earned it.

May the 4th Be With You 2015

Star Wars Day (May 4th) is here again!  Fans have a lot to celebrate with 2 new movies on horizon.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the 7th in the series of the saga and Rogue One, chronicles the theft of the original Death Star plans.  I hold high hopes for both these films and with the start of this movies season already in full swing, they should be a great addition.

Official Batman vs Superman Trailer

The next installment of DC Superhero comic book movies is coming. Batman vs Superman is set to be released next year.  As much as I really despised the selection of Ben Affleck as Batman, I am willing to let give him the benefit of the doubt and this new trailer shows a really dark background for this movie.  Perfect for a Dark Knight film and it will be interesting to see how Superman's character will continue to be portrayed after Man of Steel.  This movie is the launch of the new Justice League movies and will contain some good cameos of Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and possibly Flash and Cyborg.  How will Green Lantern be re-introduced?  Let's see if DC can cash in on this one take the next step like Marvel has with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers.

Flash and Arrow Superhero/Supervillain Fight Club

CW's The Flash and Arrow series have been extremely entertaining.  I'm glad they took some time to create an additional bit of humor for to promote the last few episodes of the season for both series.

Only one rule about fight club...we don't talk about fight club...

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer #2

Today, Disney released the new trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.  Finally get to see Han and Chewie...lol

Are you ready for December yet?

More Top Reviews for Echoes

More reviews have been posted about Echoes from prominent book reviewers and they are glorious. Here's the latest from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Winner! SciFi fans will love it! March 30, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Mysteries and more mysteries. There are mysteries everywhere in The Epherium Chronicles: Echoes. Just as the war between the Cilik'ti seems to be resolved and Captain Hood is going to meet with them and their council, they mysteriously break away and then tell the colonists that there will be no council. And then again the humans are under attack by a Cilik'ti faction, though not the one that their friend Kree comes from.

Maya Greywalker's brother and his squadron of fighters arrive to assist the colony in their defences but somehow he ends up MIA and presumed dead. Given his enhanced genetic ability like Maya's, that in itself is strange. So is the way his squadron fights in formation. It's nothing like anyone aboard the Armstrong has ever seen.

There are so many twists and turns and so many things going on at the colony on Cygni as well as at Tau Ceti and in space above the planets you will have to pay attention to keep up. The book moves at a fast pace and will stretch your imagination.

Part fantasy, part science fiction, with a bit of a romance thrown in, The Epherium Chronicles: Echoes is the new Star Trek-type space saga. Strongly defined characters, well developed and personable, they are people we can relate to and care about. Echoes is the third book in the series and we have grown to know and love these characters over the past two books.

I enjoyed the creativity and the action in all the different locations where things were happening in the story. I do have to admit though that sometimes I got a bit lost between all the characters and where they were. There are a lot of characters in this book in several locations and if you're not careful, you can get lost.

I thought the wildlife on Tau Ceti was excellent. I hate spiders also, but I liked the spider in the cave with the rock-like egg.

I would recommend The Epherium Chronicles: Echoes to anyone who enjoys science fiction or fantasy books. This series is simply one of the best that I have read. I gave it 5 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense battles, mystery, murder and mayhem April 1, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author's writing is going from strength to strength with this next installment to the Epherium Chronicles which I couldn't put down. I can only say: WOW - there were so many twists and surprises I almost forgot to breathe and now I'm feeling sad cause I now have to wait for the next one - I hope T.D. Wilson can write fast because I need my Epherium fix, lol. Captain Hood and the Armstrong crew are off to check on the colony ship, Cabot which was making for the system of Tau Ceti. New enemies come to the fore in this installment - more bad guys creep out of the woodwork, new aliens called the Nelfarren appear and they are none to pleasant. There are some fantastically described battle scenes; the romance between Raf Sanchez and Maya Greywalker starts hotting up; terriorists on earth are causing endless headaches for the EDF; not all is as it should be with the colonists on Tau Ceti and some of them are inexplicably aging. All in all this book is a fantastic read - so if you like intense battle scenes, great characters, a little bit of mystery, murder and mayhem this is definitely the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner in an exciting series March 30, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Joe Dacy II (The Kindle Book Review)

In the third installment of the Epherium Chronicles, Captain James Hood has saved an Earth colony but now faces a host of new threats to the fledgling settlement. His alien Cilik'ti allies are in disarray and reinforcements from Earth come with strings.

I admit I’m a fan of military SF wherein fanciful weapons don’t show up out of the Void to save the day at the last minute. The protagonist of the story must use his wits to win and the characters have to deal with real personal, political and professional issues that would beset actual space warriors.

The action keeps the pages turning and the novel is salted with a good number of surprises to heighten the intrigue.

I recommend you acquire the first two books – Embrace and Crucible – to enhance your enjoyment of this one. And, there’s more to come.

Characters on Trial!

My fellow sci-fi author, Timothy S. Johnston, and I created a new blog entry on our publisher's website this week.  We decided to put our main characters on trial and allow them to be subjugated to some intense questions.  At the end, we want readers to submit questions and the characters will answer them.  Pretty cool, huh.  Our publisher,Carina Press, is also giving away free copies of the books to a few lucky people who submit questions.  Ask away and get your name in for the drawing.

More Fantastic Reviews for The Epherium Chronicles

The release of Echoes, the 3rd book of The Epherium Chronicles, is only a few weeks away, but more stellar reviews are coming in from readers of the first two books, Embrace and Crucible.

Here are few of the more recent reviews posted on Amazon:

5.0 out of 5 stars Corporate conspiracy, sabotage and murder on the road to a rescue missionMarch 4, 2015
By
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Epherium Chronicles: Embrace (Kindle Edition)
A thoroughly enjoyable read - the author has a nice, flowing and easy writing style as he moves from seamless descriptions of fold-space drives to crime scenes and much more. Wonderful and vivid characters walk the pages of this space opera from the quick-minded and intelligent Captain Hood, to the genetically altered Security Chief, Maya Greywalker. This book is a mixture of corporate conspiracy, sabotage, murder - with red herrings along the way - and a mission to see whether the colony ships that left 25 years ago are thriving. All in all a very good beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop action sequel March 7, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
WOW!!!! Wilson really amped up the action in Crucible. I really enjoyed the first book, Embrace - it bubbled away nicely laying the groundwork for the story setting and the development of the main characters; in Crucible, Wilson has stepped up the action, character development and the under-lying conspiracy that stretches up through the Epherium hierarchy. The action sequences on the planet and in space are tense, dramatic and described in such away that it unfolds in your mind. The Cilik'ti Chi'tan Shi (clan) are vicious and give no quarter to the human marines and colonists on the planet nor do they in space and the death toll rises on all sides. What I loved about Wilson's story is the quality of the character development - just when you think the imperturbable Captain Hood always holds it together, the author takes you sideways and you realize he has his fair share of weaknesses and fears. The plotting is solid, the action brilliant - battle scenes on the planet and in space had me sitting on the edge of my seat. The under-lying conspiracy simmers along and I expect we will learn more as the story progresses into book 3. I highly recommend the Epherium Chronicles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of high-tech action and surprising plot twists February 22, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
In this sequel to The Epherium Chronicles: Embrace, Earth Defense Forces dreadnaught Captain James Hood continues his mission to find and protect a nascent human colony in the Cygni system. The main threat is a brutal, insectoid race that kills humans with impunity but there are many unforeseen challenges awaiting the captain and his team.

The primary draw: military engagements both on the ground and in space that simply do not let up. The secondary draw: plot surprises you will never see coming.

Unlike some sequels this novel’s transition from Book 1 to Book 2 is pretty much seamless and readers would have no trouble picking up the tale as a standalone work (although I recommend reading the first book first.)

A small warning: don’t start this fast-paced book if you have something you need to do later because you will not want to put it down.

Why We Need More Agent Carter

In our hiatus from episodes from Marvel: Agents of Shield, ABC and Marvel have treated us to a wonderful short series: Agent Carter. The teammate and love interest of Steve Rogers, Captain America, must find a way to move on with him lost and presumed dead in post WWII America.

This story captured the struggles of Peggy Carter as the lone woman in an office of Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) in New York City. Literally treated as a secretary, Peggy (played by Hayley Atwell) must find a way to clear Howard Stark's name after he is branded a traitor to the US for allegedly selling his inventions to the county's enemies. In truth, they were stolen from his private vault.

Peggy teams up with Edwin Jarvis, Stark's butler and the human model for Tony's Stark's Jarvis AI, to exonerate Howard and find those responsible.  All the while keeping her activities concealed from her boss and teammates in the SSR.

This series really shows us the depth of character in Peggy Carter. Tragedy strikes her repeatedly in this series as those close to Peggy get in the cross hairs of her adversaries. Not to mention, Mr. Stark hasn't exactly been truthful about all of his stolen technology.

This series continued to build until the final episode of the short season. Audiences were treated to a overview of what will become SHIELD, what kind of person Peggy and Howard Stark are, and new enemies after the defeat of Hydra. I was also happy to see Peggy reunite with members of the Howling Commandos, an episode that proved to many in the SSR that Peggy Carter has the skills and moxy to be an SSR agent.

There is so much of the early story of SHIELD to tell and Peggy Carter's role in it.  We've only scratched the surface of the Black Widow project run by the Russians that will eventually produce Natasha Rominov (The Black Widow from Avengers played by Scarlett Johannson) and its foster organization, Leviathan.

Hayley Atwell's performance as Peggy Carter was fantastic and not bringing this series back to complete more of the story would be a shame.  Marvel has given us the taste of another era for heroes. They've also shown us that evil will find a way to survive and is patiently looking for the opportunity to rise again.

The Passing of Leonard Nimoy

Another great science fiction actor and icon from the Star Trek Universe has left us.  Leonard Nimoy, age 83, who played Mr, Spock in the original Star Trek series passed away today at this home.  He had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over a year and was hospitalized for it early this week.  Mr. Nimoy reprised the character in all the Star Trek movies based on the original series, plus episodes in the Star Trek: The Next Generation.  In recent years, he played an older Spock in the two J.J. Abrams Star Trek films.

Mr. Nimoy has inspired so many of us who enjoy sci-fi shows and showed his talents in different ways including poetry, music, and directing.  He directed two of the Star Trek movies and a comedy, Three Men and a Baby.

We wish you a fond farewell, Mr. Nimoy.  You have set upon a great new journey in the afterlife, but your legend and inspiration will always live long and prosper.  Rest in peace.

Five Years of the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory

Today marks the 5th year the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory has been watching the Sun and recording fantastic images for scientists at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to study.  I have met a few people on this project and worked with some who support the fantastic infrastructure at NASA GSFC that enables the transfer, storage and analysis of this data.

What we have learned about our Sun over the past five years is truly amazing.  To commemorate this 5 year anniversary, NASA has released this time lapse of images captured by the SDO satellite.  It is breath taking and I hope that all fans of science, space, science fiction, and technology enjoy it as much as I have.

The Epherium Chronicles: Echoes Chapter 2

The Epherium Chronicles series continues with the third installment, Echoes.

Book three of The Epherium Chronicles

The battle for Cygni colony may be over, but for Captain James Hood and the crew of the EDF Armstrong, the battle for humanity's future has just begun. Hood's defense of the remote outpost against the Cilik'ti aliens was magnificent, but without the timely help of an unlikely ally—a splinter tribe of humanity's bitter enemies—the colony would have been lost and the Armstrong destroyed.

An uneasy peace has prevailed ever since. But as the humans prepare for a crucial meeting, a desperately needed Earth supply convoy is attacked under mysterious circumstances, with the lead escort cruiser's captain disappearing even more mysteriously.

The fate of all of Earth's new colonies hangs in the balance, and Hood is charged with protecting them against growing threats from all sides. When rebellion and unrest challenge the very leadership of the Earth Defense Forces, Hood may need to go it alone…and make the ultimate sacrifice.

Here is the second chapter for Echoes which will be released on March 30, 2015.
