My Interview on the GizmoSapiens Podcast

 Interview on GizmoSapiens Podcast

I was recently interviewed by my good friend Christopher Centers for the GizmoSapiens Podcast.  It was a fun 2 hours, yeah, 2 hours, where we talked about my current writing projects, The Epherium Chronicles and The Reese Daniels Smuggler series.  We also talked about some new projects, including the next Reese Daniels story, a new time travel/alternative history storyline called The Hayden Lockhart novels and a new short fiction story line, From the Files of Hero Division.

The writing process can take different forms for writers and I talked about mine, which mainly starts with an idea, then research, and plotting.  I look at a broader story arc, twists, and build character arcs.  To me, relatable characters are just as important as the main storyline. It helps readers invest their time, immerse in the story and make it their own.  It truly makes plot twists and character growth moments even more satisfying.

Open Wide for Valor

 Smuggler's Valor is Going Wide!

That's right, Smuggler's Valor has gone to a wide distribution.  You might ask, "What does that mean?"

The simple answer is this.  When I published Smuggler's Valor, I used Amazon's KDP Select program, which offers authors the ability to promo free or Kindle daily deals and, most importantly, allows the book to be available in Kindle Unlimited..  You have to be exclusive to Amazon while on KDP Select and each enrollment period lasts 90 days.

After 9 months in KDP Select, I wanted to expand Smuggler's Valor's footprint beyond Amazon and take it vendors like Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Google Play (and Google Books), Smashwords and Kobo.  It also allows me to send copies to the library distributors.

I am really excited about the reach offered by the wide distribution and the networks of these other vendors.  Amazon's KDP Select program has been very beneficial.  In the short term, Smuggler's Guilt will complete its current KDP period and depending on Valor's sales, I may move it over to wide as well.  The same goes for Valor's audiobook.

The next Reese Daniels Smugger story, Smuggler's Love, will be initially released on KDP Select.  I am have a large group of followers who use Kindle Unlimited and I don't want them left out.

Here are some links to find vendors.  I am still waiting for Booklinker to consolidate them all.

New Excerpt from Smuggler's Valor

Nebula Award Nominations conclude at the end of February. Smuggler's Valor has been on the suggested reading list for months and I am hopeful I will get some nods.  Not sure if I get enough to make the finalist, but a snowball now can start and avalanche.

Here is a brief excerpt from my award-winning novelette, Smuggler's Valor.

Praying the battle offered a lasting distraction; I secured my gear and broke cover. After a deep breath, oxygen filled my lungs, and I started my run. It was more a series of long-distance hops than an actual sprint. With each landing, my speed increased; the jumps propelled me faster and I covered more ground.

After a half kilometer, I checked my optics. The dome’s main airlock lay ahead. My ears thumped and chest shuddered as my heart pounded from the exertion.

It’s not much farther. You can make it.

On my next leap, I discovered my second wind, ignoring the pain in my labored lungs. Determination drove me on. Home was where I needed to go, back to Gracie. I jumped again, but on the landing my footing failed, and I slipped on a patch of ice.

Trepidation roused, but I refused it, my microgravity training kicking in. With a quick adjustment, I reoriented. My padded knees skipped on the ground, dug in on the second touch and I skidded to a stop. No decompression alarm sounded; my suit’s HUD displayed full integrity. I sighed, long and slow. Relief washed over me like a comforting wave. That’s when the colony’s airlock exploded.
